Description
August in Cozumel is miserably hot, crushingly humid, and horribly mosquito-laden. At some point in August, though, you will pass a fruteria and you will see the almost alien-looking pink and green fruits that let you know that the pitayas (dragonfruit) are ripe. When this happens to me, I know that for the next few weeks, I'm going to be one happy CozumeleƱo. Not only will I have a pitaya for breakfast most mornings, but the bars will have pitaya mojitos and pitaya margueritas, and Michoacan will have agua pitaya, all incredibly refreshing on a hot, humid Cozumel day.
In anticipation of that, here's my latest drawing, which I call "Temporada de Pitaya" (Pitaya Season). It's colored pencil, 8" x 10".
