Description
This is a photograph of a light fixture in one of the dining spaces at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The glass was so thick it made the light look like congealed honey forming into frozen lines and comb-like structures.
Colored glass has been popular for centuries for use in windows and household items such as drinking glasses. The earliest forms of colored glass were caused by impurities in the sand used to produce the glass. Later, colors were introduced deliberately into glass by addition of minerals or metals during the production process.
Per Photokonnexion (http://www.photokonnexion.com/abstract-photography-definition/): Like abstract art, abstract photography concentrates on shape, form, colour, pattern and texture. The viewer is often unable to see the whole object. The subject of the photo is often only a small part of the idea of the image. Viewers may only know the essence of the image subject or understand it by what is implied.
Often the image will not be a literal view of the subject itself. The subject tends to come second to seeing. The impact of aspects of the subject become a form of expressing the point.
